Survey says:

Well,
I decided to try out a few of the old wives tales and ways to determine the gender of the baby. Here is what they say for me.

Chinese Gender Chart- GIRL
Old Wives Tales Quiz (www.babygenderpredictor.com)- GIRL
Wedding Ring on a String- circles, so GIRL (right?)
I seem to be carrying more round than watermelon shaped- BOY
Heart Rate (136)- BOY
I prefer to lay on my right side (according to Taiyo's sis that means...)-BOY
Ultrasound- ?? SCHEDULED FOR FEB 12!

What do you think?! I'll put up a poll right over there -->
on the right hand side of the page and I'll leave it open until Feb 12 when we find out for sure (assuming baby cooperates)!

Ahh! What was that??

Yesterday I had a couple of "firsts."

1) Someone told me for the first time yesterday that I have a little "pooch" now. I'm taking it as a compliment, haha...

2) I think I felt the baby moving!!!!!
I'm not 100% sure because I don't really know what a baby feels like moving inside of you, but yesterday after church Taiyo and I laid down to take a nap and before I fell asleep I suddenly felt a weird pressure moving around in my belly, a bit on the left side, just below my belly button level. As soon as I felt it my eyes popped wide open and I laid completely still to try to focus on it and see if I could tell if it was really the baby or not. I've heard people say it's kind of like gas bubbles, so that's what I've been kind of expecting, but this was a little different than I expected. It wasn't "bubbly" or "gurgley" at all, just the same feeling of pressure as when gas moves around... but I've never felt it without the somewhat gurgley feeling though, so this felt different. It lasted a good 5 seconds or more.
I put my hands down on my belly and in fact the hard part (whatever it's called) was exactly in that spot, popping out the left side of my belly, while the right side was softer... ok maybe that sounds weird but i just mean that the baby was in fact in the spot where I felt the "moving." If it really was the baby, it was like he/she was stretching or moving around, rather than any little kick or anything. I guess when I get further along and learn to recognize it, I'll be able to look back and know if this was really my first time feeling baby or not. I hope it was! I got so excited about it!!! :D

17 weeks! (almost)

Actually I won't be 17 weeks until Monday but I went ahead and took my first "mama belly" picture today. :)

It doesn't look like an obvious baby belly yet but it's definitely popping out now as of this week! A week or two ago I started feeling the hard bump inside, and then it finally started pushing out. Every day this week I woke up feeling like it was bigger! I guess it will start growing faster and faster from here on out.

Pregnancy updates:
* I'm done with the first trimester and done with the nausea! yay!
* I did get a kidney infection a few weeks ago. That wasn't fun but I got on some antibiotics and things are all good now.
* I have an ultrasound scheduled for February 12! We can't wait to see how baby is growing and if it's a boy or a girl!
* A couple days ago for the first time I put on a pair of shorts and couldn't button them! Here comes the belly!

Other updates:
* School has started again so that means new classes for both me and Taiyo.
* I'll be graduating at the beginning of June! whew!
* Taiyo just got hired as a tutor in the BYUH math department, and he's very excited to be doing that instead of PCC security.
* The Laie Temple closed at the end of the year for renovations... for 1.5 years. :( The next closest temple is in Kona on the big island.
* Life is hectic but good :)

Newlywed Christmas Eve

Well it's our first Christmas together as a married couple! Due to lack of spare finances we didn't buy a tree, but instead I made a makeshift "tree" out of lights on the living room wall. And our "fireplace" is a youtube video of a fireplace playing. (Not that we need the heat from it anyway, it doesn't even get below 71 degrees at night! In fact, it's midnight and we have the fan on right now!) :)

And here's my handsome nutcracker. We walked through the Aloha Center to see all the lights and decorations and Taiyo liked the giant nutcracker, hehe...

I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, I just can't wait!

There are two things my Christmas could not go without.

I haven't gone a year without Mariah Carey's Christmas songs since it came out. It doesn't seem like I will ever grow out of it. Taiyo has been hesitant to start playing Christmas music yet, but he knows I'm dying to already, so last night while I was in the kitchen making bread (with the new breadmaker my mom got us!! Thanks mom!) Taiyo was at the computer and all of a sudden I heard this song start and I got so excited I just had to go kiss him and start dancing around the room, lol. He's so sweet.

And of course, what would Christmas be without A Christmas Story... Unfortunately we don't have a TV, so I'm not going to be able to have the 24 hour marathon playing this year... :( I'll have to find the movie to borrow somewhere.

Congrats! It's a.... jelly bean?!

We have a jelly bean! Can't tell if it's a pink one or blue one yet though.

I had my first prenatal appointment yesterday in Kailua. Everyone at the health clinic is SUPER wonderful and nice and helpful. The lady practitioner I'll be working with most of the time met with me and did all the normal checkup things, took a little "looksies" down there, and then to my surprise, said she was going to do an ultrasound! I'm only 7 and 1/2 weeks now, but she did it and took all the measurements and everything, and we could see the baby's little heart beating!! It was all a bit much for Taiyo to take in. He had never seen anything like that before (the whole checkup procedure, especially since the ultrasound was not abdominal... it was... from the inside). But I couldn't stop smiling just seeing the little baby inside me. It's limbs are just barely starting to grow. 33 more weeks to go! Oh, and the official due date is June 29!

Taiyo's First Halloween

This is Taiyo's first real Halloween. He made fun of me for getting so excited about buying a pumpkin, but I convinced him to carve one with me and I think he ended up getting into it more than I did!

The only candles we could find were some birthday cake candles, so T rubber banded them all together and lit them on fire... The flame was taller than the pumpkin but he insisted it was fine, and put them in a small tin can and put the whole thing, already lit, into the pumpkin with a pair of tongs lol... Crazy Tongan.

Wow.
I can't wait to see what he and our future kids come up with someday!
